You may arrive alone with a camera or as part of a production team, university group, research team or organisation. The expedition is shaped around what the mission actually requires.

No two expeditions begin with exactly the same requirements. We first understand what needs to happen in the field, then determine the people, logistics and practical support required to make it possible.

This is not a rigid six step procedure. Field conditions, access, wildlife activity and project requirements can change, so the operation remains responsive throughout the expedition.

Capability Beyond Guiding

The practical setup changes with every project. A photographer may need time and flexibility around wildlife activity and light. A production crew may need equipment movement, location planning and additional field personnel. A research team may require a different combination of local knowledge, logistics and specialist support.

Wildlife photography, biodiversity documentation, documentary work, editorial assignments and other visual projects can be planned around the actual requirements of the photographer or production team.

Authentic Orangutan is not positioned as a production house. We operate as the local field and expedition partner supporting the work inside the Leuser landscape.

Bukit Lawang is our primary field base, but the work does not necessarily end at its boundaries.

Depending on the mission, field conditions, access, safety and applicable permissions, expeditions can be facilitated across relevant parts of the wider Leuser landscape, including suitable forest environments in Langkat and other mission specific locations.

Locations are selected because they serve the objective of the expedition, not simply because they sound remote.

Sensitive wildlife coordinates, nesting areas, camera trap locations and precise locations of endangered species are not published.

Professional Expeditions begin from a minimum of three days and every operation remains private to the client or project.

Larger production, research or institutional teams can still be accommodated. Where appropriate, they can be divided into coordinated field groups while sharing the wider logistics and operational planning of the expedition.

RESPONSIBLE FIELDWORK

Professional fieldwork should never require wildlife to perform for the camera. We prepare around the objective while respecting the realities of the forest and the animals living within it.

Do you bait wildlife for photography or filming?

No. Wildlife is not deliberately fed or baited to create an encounter.

Do you chase animals to get footage?

No. Wildlife is not aggressively pursued for photographs or film.

Can wildlife behaviour be manipulated?

No. Animal behaviour should not be manipulated simply to produce content.

How close can a team approach wildlife?

Observation depends on appropriate distance, field judgement, regulations and actual conditions.

How are permissions handled?

Applicable protected area regulations, access requirements, regulated equipment and other relevant permissions are considered during expedition planning.

Can wildlife sightings be guaranteed?

No. Wildlife moves freely in its natural environment. We prepare around the mission and use field knowledge, but specific sightings cannot responsibly be guaranteed.
